Традиции и политическая экономия в вице-королевстве Новая Испания (XVIII век)

Правовые традиции Испанской империи, отличавшиеся многобразием, но всегда развивавшиеся в едином русле имперской католической культуры, сыграли важную роль в укреплении и расширении испаноязычного мира в эпоху Старого порядка. Совпадение интересов и целей монархии, церкви и различных групп было обусловлено необходимостью обеспечить институциональную стабильность огромного геоэкономического и культурного пространства, в котором государственная политика вырабатывалась и проводилась на основе принципа общего блага. На протяжении XVIII в. традиции и реформизм взаимно влияли друг на друга, в результате чего в формировавшемся политическом и социально-экономическом пространстве происходило укрепление мощи Испанской монархии и рост ее административной эффективности. Это давало толчок развитию экономики на уровне производства, финансов, торговли, а также социальной сферы. На местном уровне испано-индейские города и общины обладали собственными административными и экономическими ресурсами, а также вносили непосредственный вклад в финансирование нужд монархии, зачастую на основе договоренностей. Налоговобюджетная политика и, в частности, государственные расходы были направлены не только на оборону, но и на обеспечение потребностей правительства и развитие христианского образования. Таким образом, государство, церковь и гражданское общество вносили свой вклад в поддержание порядка и развитие Новой Испании.
