El artículo examina un papel importante que desempeñaron en la historia mundial varios monarcas europeos de los siglos IX – XVIII quienes participaron en las actividades de la comunidad de los traductores e intérpretes. Sus labores estuvieron vinculadas no solo a la organización del proceso de traducir en sus países (Inglaterra, España, Rusia), sino a las traducciones mismas de los textos extranjeros a las lenguas maternas hechas por estos reyes y reinas. Se hace especial hincapié en la personalidad del rey de España Alfonso X el Sabio quien abrió en el siglo XIII la segunda etapa de la famosa Escuela de Traductores de Toledo, encabezó sus actividades y les atribuyó un carácter inédito en la metodología de enseñar y traducir, en ampliar de las obras traducidas. El   artículo describe la historia de crear la versión inglesa de Jacobo de la traducción del texto sacral de la Biblia que ha sido objeto emblemático para muchas generaciones de los traductores.

The article examines the important role which played in the history some European monarchs in the IX–XVIII ages. These kings and queens took part in the activities of the community of translators and interpreters. Their work was connected not only with the organization of the translator’s job in their countries (England, Spain, Russia), but with doing by these kings and queens translations from the foreign languages to mother tongues. The article pays special attention to the personality of the Spanish king Alfonso X Sage who opened at the XIII age the second stage of the famous Translator’s School in Toledo, placed at the head of its activities and added originality to the translator’s education and the art of translation, expanded genre fan of the translated works. The author describes the history of English version of Jacob’s translation of Bible, which always was object emblematic for many generations of translators.
